Wandering Angus

I love to think of Celtic mythology at this time of year and dredge up my favorite poems and stories by Yeats, Joyce, Heaney, etc. Last year I highlighted the Song of Wanderin' Angus (the Celtic god of love and youth) by Yeats; this year I found another lass thinking about Dream Angus, too.

". . . Will he come to me, Dream Angus,
Come quietly throug the evening light,
Come when I do not expect him, and I am sleepy,
Come when I am drowsy, when I am ready for rest;
Will he come to me, Dream Angus?

. . .

Will I see the birds about his head,
The birds that are his kisses?
Will I believe that each of us,
Even he who thinks himself unloved,
May be transformed, made different
By one who finds him marvelous? Will I think that?"
~by Alexander McCall Smith from Dream Angus

Slainte!

May the Irish hills caress you,
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.
Cheers!

    dear margaret/margaret dear: :)

a young woman in my writing group wrote tonight about being loved. she said a past life reader told her it is not up to her to decide whether she was worth loving. it is up to the people who love her.

    i like that.

now: my saint patrick's day joke:

    what's green and lives outside?

    answer: Paddy O'Furniture

    hee hee hee

  6. Thank you for sharing that, kj. I always try too hard. It's not even up to me!
One Irish joke I haven't heard!
An Irishman proposed to his girl on St. Patrick's Day. She proudly showed the ring to her father, a jeweler, who said it was fake. She criticized her boyfriend who said, "it's a sham rock." Slainte! (Cheers in Gaelic)
