The Art of Catnapping

Revitalize yourself by taking a catnap during the day.

Step One
Relax with the scent of a sedative essential oil, such as lavender, rose, mandarin, jasmine, sandlewood, or marjoram.

Step Two
Play some calming background music, such as Celtic, Invocation, Reiki Whale Song, Seven Metals, Floating on Evening, Bliss, or Moon on the Water.

Step Three
Touch a soothing piece of fabric, such as cashmere or silk.

Step Four
To become even drowsier, put on a quiet video, such as The Quiet Man or Cash McCall, or read a few pages from a short story by Katherine Mansfield, Doris Lessing, or Mavis Gallant.

Step Five
Awaken after 20-30 minutes feeling refreshed--your mind clearer and more alert--and energized to greet the rest of the day.

  1. Snore! Oops, sorry, I was off there for a moment!

Lovely, gorgeous, sensuous, self-indulgent, pampering session.
What could be more welcome. Or necessary.

  5. I can just see Mavis Gallant's next blurb on her latest book's jacket cover: "The perfect stories to nod off with!"

We have a long sofa in the sunniest room of our house that is perfect for a short afternoon nap, warmed by the sun's rays.

  7. I have a daybed in what I call my Quiet Room...it faces the afternoon sun...has a soft throw...sandalwood candles near and music to snooze by...plus the sound of 2 ticking clocks, which I love!

  8. Wake up, Friko! I said no more than 30 minutes! The best part of the Steps is that the nap is planned, and thus we are putting aside time to take a break and not sitting and closing one eye for a second.

Hi Blues! Well, it has Quiet in the title! Actually, I was remembering the Quiet Man's House ner Galway in Ireland. A beautiful cottage with the love story between Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne. My favorite western is Shane! And yours?

Hi Lynne! You know, I thought the same thing about the movies... not boring, just calming. Your Florida room sounds dreamy!

Hi Sharon! Unless you chose the exact moment they were planning to nap--then you could lie down for a bit.

  9. Wanda, that sounds lovely! Especially on a raw, cloudy day like today. You are all set up! I love the idea of two ticking clocks--very hypnotic.
