silkie seal on midsummer night's eve

Jamie, the silkie seal, is coming out of the ocean for one day, Midsummer's Night Eve. Today she will see her human son Baigh!
Jamie teaches Baigh how to swim underwater so they may have more time together.

  1. I do wish I understood more!! Who or what is a silkie seal? And where were these gorgeous pics taken? If you "own" this playground, lucky you!

  2. Oops, me again. I just read the explanation on the right.
So there remains just one question, are you one of the sea fairies?

  3. Hi Friko, so happy for your garden show, and glad you now have a little breather. This is a take-off of the Celtic fairy tales about seals shedding their skins once a year to become human. I've told another little silkie tale in an older post. THe silkie is always my niece Jessy who practically lives underwater. The top picture is she in Hawaii where she lives. The rest of the photos were taken at the New Jersey shore: first I took a lot of pix at the shore and then picked and chose those that would fit the story. I'm doing a theme on summertime right now on my blog. Just for fun,a great movie regarding the silkie legend is The Secrt of Roan Isish, directed by John Sayles. You will love it!

Jessica, thanks for stopping by! All the silkie stories are pretty much alike, except sometimes it's the man who is the silkie. Annie says hi! Love ya right back atcha!

  7. I love the silkie story and the pictures to go with it. Quick correction to previous comments, the one of me was taken in Egypt. Both places have beautiful blue water, but egypt has more sand and less lava.

  11. Charmine, thank you for the lovely words! Regards, Margaret

Gry, they are every similar! Alas, the loveliness of the mermaid makes those fairy tales more compelling than the stories about seals! I wish you and you family a wonderful vacation, and I know you'll take lots of pictures! Can't wait to see--and hear--your adventures. Love, Margaret

Thanks, Blues! I missed you! Glad to have you back. Happy 4th of July! Best, Margaret
