on the Delaware River in Pennsylvania

I am the blue horse that runs on the plain

I am a feather on the bright sky

I am the fish that rolls, shining, in the water

I am the evening light,

the lustre of meadows
You see, I am alive, I am alive

our warmhearted sun

The sun conveys its warm, luminous rays to the open, receptive flowers.

The flowers form a heart to embrace the sun.

Our golden sun slides into the blue Pacific when day is done.

Nature guides us if we listen.

The nightshade berry, not wishing to hurt, remains hidden.

Flowers tell us to relax, hope, and dream and to have fun, peace, joy, pleasure, and energy.

And be revitalized!

Woodchuck and Squirrel amiably share a piece of bread: friendship.

The white pine bows to remind us to be humble.

sacred earth

bright sun
the sheen of tall grass
when it bends
haiku by Jim Kacian

The stones change, move, talk

With the tall grass on this earth:

Yesterday, water.

fade to grey

The air fresh, as it has been for days.

Upper sky lavender. Deer on the far hill.

The farm woman said they would be gone

when I got there as I started down the lane.

Jumped the stream. Went under great eucalyptus

where the ground was stamped bare by two bulls

who watched from the other side of their field.

The young deer were playing as the old ate

or guarded. Then all were gone, leaping.

Except one looking down from the top.

The ending made me glad. I turned toward

the red sky and ran back to the farm,

the man, the woman, and the young calves.

Thinking that as I grow older I will lose

my color. Will turn tan and gray like the deer.

Not one deer, but when many of them run away.

ancient roles

Unattainable, ~ The moon and the lizard with ~ Puffed throat. Ancient sport.
"Moon, you are getting worse and worse.
Lying around in pretty satin,
your hair fixed all careful like a widow.
I capture this lizard and house it
in my hands. Feel the scratching.
We look at each other between my fingers,
he as Dante and I as the ghost,
the Lost-in-the-Night, the daughter
of faith built on common ground. While you,
old moon, play safe, safe, beautiful and safe."

the sun, passing winds, and flying clouds

"How can I give right directions
When I am a wanderer myself!
Onward I stroll and ever on
In my own way courting the sun
And fashioning Arcadia
Of passing winds and flying clouds."

my old home in northern California

A field of clover ~ The endless sky of summer ~ Marks of my old home.

"Please stop, Ratty!" pleaded the poor Mole, in anguish of heart. "You don't understand! It's my home, my old home! I've just come across the smell of it, and it's close by here, really quite close. And I must go to it, I must, I must! O, come back, Ratty! Please, please come back!"

July skies in the Southern Hemisphere

The constellation Sagittarius is best seen from the Southern Hemisphere in July.
Happy star gazing to Delwyn at a hazy moon in Australia, Joe Brazuca at joebrazuca in Brazil, the Sagittarian at More Canterbury Tales in New Zealand (are you in the Southern Hemisphere; some parts of NZ are in the Northern Hemisphere?), and Alessandro Soler at alessandrosoler in Brazil!

From a hurt, tortured, wounded psyche
Sagittarius the centaur lashes out.
We call him harsh, a brute, destroyer,
His arrow perpetually poised to shoot.
Yet something human lies in his breast, and thus
He reigns forever in the pantheon of stars.

This photo was taken on the Big Island of Hawaii. It shows the Milky Way Galaxy, part of which crosses the constellation Sagittarius. The Milky Way stars that lie just above Sagittarius's teapot look like steam rising from the tea.

The brightest stars of Sagittarius comprise a teapot in the lower right portion of the constellation.

July full moon over Hawaii

We've seen July's full moon from New Jersey and Hawaii. Anywhere else? Any photos? Shall we aim for pix from around the world for August's full moon? It falls on August 6, 2009. Please email to me at margaretpanpipes@gmail.com.

July full buck / blood moon

Last night the rays from the full moon
Touched me with a silv'ry, languorous scent.
I breathed deeply. I breathed again.
Then from the other side of the earth
Came a largess of beams; my heart unraveled.
