Let Freedom Ring

"Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day." ~ Thomas Jefferson

  1. I like to think of this day as "INTERdependence Day" as it's really much more useful to think about the many, many ways in which we are interdependent.

  2. The 4th always reminds me of something I take for granted mostly. Being born independent and free so to speak I have grown accustomed to it. lol Happy 4th Margaret and thanks for sharing.

  3. Hi Dan, I agree with you. Interdependence is very healthy, even on the micro level of a family. I think Jefferson meant by independence "that all men are created equal," and as a slave one is unequal. I like this quote to the right about having the freedom to set one's own goals. Have a great holiday, Dan--p.s. Delwyn printed her ten today!

hi Blues, I think youy're right. We never lived in a time or place when or where we had no freedom. I like Jefferson's idea that being able to follow one's own talents and energy actually helps to bring the weighed-down up. Are fireworks legal in Missouri? (^-^) Have a good one!

  5. Thanks, Angela! I wanted my post to be from the Jefferson stance but wasn't sure it came through. So thanks for seeing that, and happy 4th of July in America!

  6. Hi Margaret

I really like this quote because I believe that the majority of 'bad' things done it the world are the result of ignorance and poverty.

    Happy days

  14. Delwyn~ I'm with you. I think virtually all the social problems in the world are due to ignorance.

Thanks, Rain! Wasn't it just Canada Day, too?

Hi Blues! Hope you had a good holiday! We can buy fireworks in Pennsylvania but aren't allowed to have them in New Jersey! How's that for logic!

Thanks Shelia! Our founding fathers had a lot of foresight in setting up the USA. They were able to create a working democracy that has served us 233 years.

Thanks, Friko! hmm . . . and only?

Thanks, Julie! you have to admit the difference between our two posts is pretty funny! Our hearts were both there! Hope you had a great holiday.

Angela, are you kidding? That is so sweet! I'll be right over! Thanks, Margaret

  16. Hmm, I wonder if Jefferson would be satisfied today ?

  17. That's right. Sharon. It's our right to the pursuit of happiness!

Hi, Owen, sometimes I think the opposite occurs: the least educated and cultivated bring down the best and brightest to that level. When I compare my 20-year-old Columbia Viking encyclopedia to Wikipedia, I just shake my head.
